If you don’t know anything about this film then you’ve been living under a rock and it’s now time to crawl out ! The best music comedy movie of all time – fullstop. I have literally lost count of how many times I have seen this film. My original videotape of this flick had lost that much quality I could no longer make out what was happening in some scenes – it was just as well I knew the movie backwards anyway ! My brother and I usually begin our greetings to one another on the phone by quoting a random line from this movie and then bounce back and forth with the dialogue from the entire scene – sad but true.
It doesn’t matter that its a musical or that some of the acting is lame. This movie still has everything. Plenty of action with the biggest car chase and smash ever recorded on film (and only topped in Blues Brothers 2000). They might have every authority across the country chasing them but they really do mean well. This is a movie about a real killer band with some of the best blues musicians going ’round with a huge cast including performances by Ray Charles, James Brown, Aretha Franklin, John Lee Hooker and Cab Calloway as well as starring John Candy, Carrie Fisher, Frank Oz and Twiggy !
