I always wanted to attend a Music Quiz TV Show, so I decided to do something about it ! I planned my next trip to Melbourne when visiting my brother to see if we could make this happen. Talk about getting lucky … not only was RocKwiz recording at The Espy but my brother knew someone who was working on the show and could get us tickets !

RocKwiz is filmed in the Gershwin Room of the iconic Esplanade Hotel in St Kilda, Melbourne, affectionately known as The Espy. There is a bar serving drinks all night to the audience while the shows are being recorded live. Two shows are filmed on the one night, so when they go to air you can always spot the second show because it’s the rowdier one !

Well there I was with my brother and our Mum who had also made the trip over and just as well because she managed to talk the crew into Julia meeting me backstage between shows … Good on you Mum !

Mary Black and Shane Howard (of Goanna Fame) kicked off the first show, Shane with Solid Rock of course. The second show was flying with Chris Wilson and Sarah Lee Guthrie (yes, grand daughter of the legendary American folk musician Woodie Guthrie no less) accompanied by hubby Johnny Irion. Chris ripped into “Livin’ in a Hard, Hard Land” in fact so hard that there was some feedback noise and he had to come back after the show had finished filming live and perform it again ! … and we loved every minute of it. We even managed to get our mugs on the telly a few times during the shows.

So with our RocKwiz T-Shirts on we staggered out of The Espy at the end of the night and took home some happy snaps and some very special memories from this never to be repeated night.

      Hi David,

we actually don’t work for Rockwiz or SBS or are in any way affiliated with Rockwiz. I used to know someone who worked on the show but they moved on long ago, so sorry we can’t help you get seats. I suggest you contact through their website at http://www.sbs.com.au/rockwiz

      Cheers.
