Harry Manx Live At The Basement

This first time I entered the “Harry Zone” was watching a telecast of Harry Manx Live at the Basement in Sydney.  I immediately ordered a copy of his Wild About Harry DVD capturing this nights special performance. Harry is a real find.  Born in the Isle of Man, Harry has travelled to numerous parts of the world taking and developing his music into this culmination of songs.  A student of Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Harry blends east and west music with his twenty string Indian slide Mohan veena guitar.

In addition to his most prized possession Harry also shares his talents on other types of guitar playing including acoustic guitar, lap slide, and the banjo (yes banjo !) and he’s not too shabby on the harp either.  Have you ever heard Voodoo Child performed on a banjo ?  Well, you’ve gotta have a look at this - I wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t seen it for myself - quite remarkable.

Harry has a dry sense of humour and doesn’t take himself too seriously, even though he is a serious musician. The Basement is a great venue for musicians visiting Australia and what follows is an intimate performance for those in attendance. However, watching it on film makes you feel like you were actually there.

So sit back, relax and let Mr Manx take you into the “Harry Zone”.

    Hey Bruce,
    Now that’s a bummer !
From memory I reckon’ I ordered this direct from ‘Live at the Basement’ through their website. I was lucky enough to get it in an all region format but it doesn’t look like they have anymore left to sell now. Your best bet would be to purchase direct from http://www.harrymanx.com/store. It’s available and ships overseas. The only catch might be if its a specific region format disc you’ll need an all region DVD player to watch it. Good luck !
